  Clio Trophy 1999
The first stages with Jean-Paul Cottier

Like you, Jean-Paul Cottier had visited our website. He sent us an email. He indicated us he participate in the new Renault Sport Clio Trophy. We proposed him to write some race reports. He had accepted friendly.
  • Jean Paul Cottier  - Noël Del Bello :
With the origin, Jean-Paul Cottier - jean-paul.cottier@wanadoo.fr - is pilot of rally. He finished in the 10 first of Coupe Clio in 1994 and 1995. In 1996, it passes in the seat of copilot and finishes 5° of the Coupe Peugeot 106. It regularly takes part the regional rallies and episodically hill climb race, as that of the Mont Dore. In 1999, it thus takes part within the Team Del Bello, with its own car, with the Clio Trophy.
Noël Dell Bello is as for him, another is impassioned of car. Person in charge of a team, it engaged in 1997, in Coupe GT a Mac-Laren with Marc Sourd, Christophe Painso, Marc Hernandez. For 1999, it engaged Anthony Beltoise, son of the famous pilot, Jean-Pierre Beltoise.

  • Jarama (Espagne) - april, the 24-25, 1999 (some extracts tranlated from French):
This trophy started this weekend at Jarama circuit near Madrid.
The 15 French teams were there, with the 50 others european competitors. Since wednesday morning, we started tests to understand this splendid race car and adapt it to the Jarama circuit.
Small technical chapter: it's a propulsion with a weight distribution 40% for the front, 60% for the rear. In logics, we choose a setup with the lower height of frame (limited by the wheels in the front, and more 20-50mm higher in the rear) to compensate the weight repartition.
    [...]
Many pilots were surprised by the car comportment. Two italiens for the 2 first places, after we find Ruffier, Polican, Beltoise... It's normal, because more experience of them.
The number of pilots obliged the organization to prepare 2 races, and to consider the qualify time to fix the stard grids.
For this first race, I haven't any problem. My 39th place was unexpected, because the bad setup of my car for the fast corner, very iportant here.
At Monaco, may, the 15-16th, it will be very different, because the circuit configuration, the absence of tyres grip and the absence of free tests !!!
So, a good  weekend for this first paddock experience.
