  Renault Clio Sport V6 24V
  A Renault 5 Turbo looklike !

An short introduction ...

  • A strong design, full of dynamism and sportiness, evoking the pleasure of driving...
A thoroughbred, the Clio Renault Sport V6 24V expresses its sporting temperament and suggests pleasurable driving. Wider than the standard car, the Clio Renault Sport V6 24V is distinguished by its front and rear appearance and by its different body sides. The wide front spoiler and the extended rear wings are completely integrated into the design, in a way which evokes the Renault 5 Turbo. The body shell, the bonnet, the roof and the rear hatch are those of the Clio II. All the other parts of the body consist of composite panels prepared by the MOC company (part of the FINUCHEM group) whose expertise has already been seen in the Espace F1.
The cabin receives top-range treatment, with a combination of leather and Alcantara for the seat upholstery and interior trim. Sporting but at the same time civilised, the dashboard is derived from that of the top-range Clio II, but with white-faced dials and a speedometer reading up to 270kph... A stowage compartment for baggage has been provided between the seat backs and the engine compartment.

  • A special layout and a high level of safety...
The particular layout of the Clio Renault Sport V6 24V, with its engine in the mid-rear position, required a complete reworking of the Clio II chassis. New longerons and cross-members have been installed to support the engine and transmission assembly, and the suspension members.
The front and rear suspensions are new, though they employ many standard production parts. The increased wheelbase and wider tracks place the wheels at the four corners of the car, an indication of extremely good balance and excellent dynamic behaviour. The selected spring and damper rates ensure comfort while providing the dynamic performance of a top-range sports car. The special 17-inch alloy wheels are equipped with 7.5-inch wide tyres at the front and 8.5-inch at the rear.
The brakes meet the active safety requirements of a car intended for sporting use. They consist of four ventilated discs of 300mm diameter, with an X-split hydraulic circuit and servo assistance. The system includes ABS complete with EBV electronic brake distribution control.
Like the Clio II, the Clio Renault Sport V6 24V offers a high level of safety with a new generation of occupant retention systems: twin programmed-restraint airbags with controlled deflation, safety belts with load limiters and pretensioners, and close-contact head restraints. In conjunction with work carried out on the structure, this safety equipment allows the Clio Renault Sport V6 24V to conform with the most severe passive safety requirements.

  • A V6 3-litre engine of 250hp...
Generously powered, the Clio Renault Sport V6 24V is equipped with a 3-litre V6 24-valve engine installed in the mid-rear position. Starting with the engine which equips the Laguna V6 24V, Renault Sport developed a special version producing some 250bhp for a car with a total weight of 1,200kg. Power is transmitted to the wheels by way of a manual 5-speed gearbox with cable operation.

July 1999, Renault annouced the next Cllio Renault Sport V6 24V production :

The Clio Renault Sport V6 24V is to go into limited production in the year 2000.
Unveiled at the 1998 Paris Motor Show, the Clio Renault Sport V6 24V was enthusiastically acclaimed by the media and motoring public alike. In light of this success, and following the positive findings of a pre-production feasibility study, Renault has given the green light for the production of a limited run of the model. The stunning car is expected to be available for sale before the end of the year 2000.

The Clio Renault Sport V6 24V was one of the most striking surprises of the 1998 Paris Motor Show and also one of the star attractions of the Renault stand. Described at the time by Renault Sport as a realistic project based on the race-specification Clio Renault Sport V6 Trophy, the road-going version immediately appealed to a broad base of motoring enthusiasts and connoisseurs. On the initiative of Renault Sport, who were at the origin of the project, Renault swiftly reacted to the initial demand for the new model by ordering a preliminary development and production study from TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing). The report of the British-based specialist confirmed the feasibility of the project in accordance with the charter established by Renault in the domains of quality, safety and high level road performance. On the basis of these findings, Renault took the decision to produce a limited run of this special 2-seater Clio GT. Identical in all respects to the version unveiled at last year's Paris Motor Show, the Clio Renault Sport V6 24V will go on sale at a price of less than FRF 250,000 (38,112 Euros). The TWR group has been appointed to produce the Clio Renault Sport V6 24V at its Udevalla plant in Sweden. Production is scheduled to start at the beginning of the second half of 2000 and the first models are expected to be available for sale before the end of the same year. Targeted as a fun-based sports model, the Clio Renault Sport V6 24V will be powered by a 3 litre, 24 valve, V6 engine tuned to develop 250 bhp. The Clio Renault Sport V6 24V will offer a level of comfort and equipment more generally associated with upper range models. Like Clio 2, it will also feature the very latest developments in the domain of passenger protection. As a road-going version of the model designed originally for circuit racing, the Clio Renault Sport V6 24V is expected to appeal to motorists looking for a unique, exclusive car combining sports performance and genuine driving pleasure. As the countdown to production of this limited edition model gets under way, a hundred or so of the racing version have already been built at Renault's Dieppe plant and have been showing off their potential since the beginning of 1999 in the European-based one-make Renault Sport Clio Trophy.
