This year, the Coupes de l'Age d'Or was held at Monthlery
on June 24 and 25. It was held in concurrance with an exhibition in
Goodwood, England. This year's show was less impressive than in past
years. There were too few prototypes and GT's. However, the show's
sponsor, Audi, did show a couple of interesting cars...an Auto-Union
Avus V16 and this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans winner, the R8. (Audi
R8, not the Renault R8!)
The exhibition did feature some beautiful examples from the past,
including a 1927 Bentley, an Alta Racing from 1938, and a nice selection
of pre-WW1 cars such as a 1904 CGV Sport.
In the parking lot one could see a fabulous selection of Alpines.
More and more of them are coming to the show. Bravo!
Several clubs were present: Max Mille, Alpine Club Francilienne,
TEAM Gord'... Many private individuals exposed very beautiful cars
such this Alpine A110!
The club with the most participants was the CAR club!
In GT group, several crews took part in the races... Alpine A110
1100cc was not afraid! Porsche and Jaguar do not affect it!
We note Alpine A110 1100cc # 28 of Patrice Dine, the # 140 of Alain
Morin, Alpine A110 1600S # 72 of Pierre Jouandon, the # 70 of Gerard
de Kerpoisson, the # 59 of Domenica Verbačre and Renault 8 Gordini
of Joel Fouquier!
In Group FF, FJ and F3, we found Martini MK8 of Philippe Bernard,
Alpine A366 of Domenica Verbačre # 59, and well on Alpine A366 # 24
of Yann Littée (complete
report).
Let's hope that next year's show will be more impressive. Unfortunately
too many salesmen of jackets and other products are in attendance.
We would not like for the Coupes de l'Age d'Or to become like the
Retromobile exhibition!
